Why choose granite for a memorial?

If your local authority wishes to build a memorial, there are several materials to choose from. Granimond's 33 years of experience means we can recommend granite for its aesthetic qualities, strength, durability and ease of maintenance.

What local authorities want from their memorials

As a town hall or local authority, you have to deal with a number of issues concerning funeral spaces :

  • take into account the requests of families in relation to their deceased,
  • provide access to beautiful sites and monuments,
  • reduce maintenance time and costs.

When you turn to a specialist in these areas, you can be sure that every one of your constraints will be taken into account, so that we can offer you the most appropriate solutions.

At Granimond, we've chosen to showcase projects using granite, because we believe it's the most appropriate material for all these issues.

Granite: beautiful, hard-wearing and low-maintenance

Granite is a stone that comes from deep within the Earth. It's made from volcanic lava that cools very slowly, giving it great strength and robustness. Its mineral composition can vary (hence the different existing colors, from gray to pink to beige), but the following elements are always present:

  • quartz, which gives it its solidity,
  • felspar,
  • mica, which gives it a shiny appearance by reflecting light,
  • silica.

This stone can be used to create memorials that will last for many years. What's more, its exceptional resistance means that it is not damaged by the freeze/thaw cycle. As this stone has very low porosity, there is virtually no infiltration of moisture, which also protects it from mold growth, pollution encrustation and corrosion. Finally, its hardness ensures protection against scratches and other impacts.

Last but not least, we offer a 10-year (ten-year) contractual warranty on each granite project, and a five-year (five-year) warranty on installation.

An attractive investment for town halls

It's true that the cost of the noble material granite is higher than that of concrete. However, you need to take into account long-term expenses to assess the real cost of your investment. Granite's durability, resistance to the elements and low maintenance requirements make it an attractive investment. Your crews will be called upon less to clean up any traces of mould or damp, and there will be less repair work on memorials. A simple dusting will suffice to preserve the appearance of granite monuments. This is not the case with concrete, which ages less well, lasts less time and requires regular cleaning.

Another point: the extremely stable aesthetic aspect allows you to offer your community a cemetery and cinerary spaces that are welcoming and respectful of families' grief.
