What are the steps involved in setting up an area for scattering ashes at a cemetery?

You've decided to install a cinerary in your community, where families can scatter the ashes of loved ones who have opted for cremation. Granimond, your specialist, will accompany you from the design stage through to final completion of the project.

Legal and ethical obligations for cinerary spaces

If your municipality has more than 2,000 inhabitants, you are legally obliged to provide a cinerary space within the communal cemetery (law of December 19, 2008, effective January 1, 2013). This space includes a columbarium for urns containing ashes, a remembrance garden where the ashes can be scattered if so desired, and signage to record the names of the deceased.

Smaller communes are not obliged to offer such monuments, but it's a mark of respect for people's choices that's always much appreciated: offering a decent, respectful place for everyone to say goodbye and remember their loved ones.

By providing a well-maintained memorial garden (lawn, trees and shrubs, flowerbeds, water source...) and monuments built according to the rules of the trade, you show your constituents that their grief is truly taken into account.

Preparing for the creation of a memorial garden

To ensure the success of your garden of remembrance, you need the right people. The Granimond team puts its 33 years of experience at your service to advise you in your best interests. We work with you to study your needs and constraints (available surface area, number of inhabitants, material and human resources at your disposal, etc.).

We come to your town and draw up a free estimate. We advise you on the choice of monuments (size, shape, material, etc.), in compliance with legislation and always with the same objective in mind: lasting quality and respect for families.

To help you visualize your project, inform residents and make the right decisions, we create a 3D model and virtual simulation of your future space. These are always appreciated and useful.

Quality and durability

Granimond will support you throughout the entire project, and will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Customer satisfaction is very important to us.

All our funeral and cinerary projects are carried out with the utmost respect for the environment, from the choice of materials to the treatment of waste, including the application of stringent methods for the recovery of concessions. Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information.

The memorial garden is a highly symbolic and important place for families whose deceased has chosen to have his or her ashes scattered. It allows them to reflect and to have a space where they can remember their loved one. A basin for burying the ashes, a sump for scattering the ashes in water, a stele and identification plaques bearing the names of the deceased... All these elements must be made of a resistant and aesthetic material. That's why we recommend granite rather than concrete.

Each step is therefore important, to ensure that the cemetery's ashes scattering area meets all the expectations of residents, while respecting the memory of the deceased.
